Video History of the iPhone

CNET UK put together this really cool video showing the history of the people and technology that came before and helped to create the iPhone we have today.  Can’t help but notice Motorola’s stamp on the industry in the past, seems Apple has taken their role as innovators today.  Whose turn will it be next?

The Video was dedicated to the late Steve Jobs.  Way to go CNET, excellent work.  Enjoy!

Let’s talk iPhone

Apple sent out media invites today for an event being held on October 4th at Apple headquarters.  The invite included the above image which all but confirms the speculation that a new iPhone will be announced.

NYC Must Be Heard (even underground)!!!

A new era in mobile communication is about to unfold in New York City.  Starting this Tuesday, AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers will be able to use their cellphones at six underground stations across Manhattan.

The New York stations where the service will be available are on 14th Street from 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue, and on 23rd Street and 8th Avenue.

The signals will cover the platforms and mezzanines of the stations, but extend only a short distance into tunnels. Cellular data services and text messaging will work in addition to calls.

The company that’s doing the wiring, Transit Wireless, has another five years to set up service at the other 271 stations in the system. That means it needs to wire about one new station per week.

Transit Wireless is expected to spend about $200 million on the project, and has promised the Metropolitan Transit Authority another $46 million in rent over 10 years. Transit Wireless will in turn charge wireless carriers for extending their signals underground.

There is no timeline set for Sprint and Verizon subscribers being able to take their conversations underground.

Good idea?  Bad idea?  No idea.

Google is making it easier to spend your money.  The recently released Google Wallet app will essentially turn your phone into a credit card.

Check out the below “How it works” video Google put together to get a better idea of the product.

Google Wallet is currently only available for the Sprint Nexus 4G, and will be rolled out for additional phones and platforms in the near future!

Game. Changer.

The white iPhone 4 cometh! (so what)

That’s right, you’ve heard it all before, but the above image comes directly from Apple’s website and I they really mean it this time!  After a 10-month delay, Apple will be releasing it’s popular iPhone 4 in a white colorway tomorrow.

You may recall the how I roll post from December, which displayed my white iPhone 4, so you can imagine my level of interest in Apple releasing the phone tomorrow.  Thanks to the natural demand to have what is not available, and people like Fei Lam, the people got what they wanted long ago.

Now, if that iPhone 5 would come along, THAT would be something!

Meeting of the minds.

It seems as though my invitation to this meeting of the minds dinner was lost in the mail.  Fortunately however, everyone else on the list attended.

Some attendees you see:

Mark Zuckerberg (CEO, Facebook)

Steve Jobs (CEO, Apple Inc.)

Eric Schmidt (CEO, Google Inc.)

Lawrence Ellison (CEO, Oracle Corporation)

Reed Hastings (CEO, Netflix)

Dick Costolo (CEO, Twitter)

Oh, and the President of the United States of America was there too, some guy named Barack Obama :)

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss innovation, job growth, and how to implement President Obama’s “win the future” idea spoken about in his most recent State of the Union Address.

Hopefully, my invite gets delivered next time.

In case you were looking for more reasons to get an iPhone, the above screen shot suggests Skype will soon be offering a video chat feature on the iPhone/iPod touch platform.  The screen shot comes from a leaked Skype “help” document that showed up on the software company’s mobile download site.

Oh, and yes that IS a Verizon logo.

Cheers!

The BMW secret is out!

The secret is out, and it looks good!

BMW has been developing this one time concept car, known only as VED (Vision EfficientDynamics), which was officially announced by BMW this week to be going into production.  The VED uses the innovative BMW Hybrid technology: ActiveHybrid.  Good news all around because not only is it going to get 75 miles per gallon, but it’s a definite upgrade to the current selection of Hybrid cars on the road (beats a Prius!).

More details and video!
